Turning Disaster Recovery From Assumption Into Evidence

A cybersecurity company needed disaster recovery it could trust. Dayo-Tech modernized its full infrastructure, migrated vSphere 5 to 8, and built an off-site DR environment validated through recurring failover drills.


The Decision


The Customer, a cybersecurity services company, set out to modernize its core infrastructure end to end and establish a disaster-recovery posture it could actually rely on. Its environment had reached the point where a refresh was necessary, core systems ran on an aging virtualization platformת but the deeper requirement was continuity that could be trusted rather than assumed.

The distinction between a DR plan and a proven DR capability was central. A replicated recovery site that has never failed over is an assumption, not a guarantee. For an organization whose own work centers on operational resilience, an unvalidated DR posture was not acceptable. The decision was to modernize the foundation and, in the same effort, make recoverability something demonstrable.


The Architecture


Dayo-Tech treated modernization and continuity as one coordinated effort, so the work that hardened daily operations also built the basis for reliable failover.

On the primary environment, Dayo-Tech delivered a full refresh of network, server, and VMware virtualization infrastructure. Dell networking switches were deployed in a high-availability topology; Palo Alto next-generation firewall protection and GlobalProtect VPN secured the perimeter; and Dell Unity storage was deployed alongside Dell compute. The VMware estate was migrated from vSphere 5 to vSphere 8, bringing virtualization to a current, supported foundation.

For continuity, Dayo-Tech stood up a disaster-recovery site with full replication of all applications and systems and designed and scheduled recurring DR drills to validate readiness. Making the drill schedule part of the design, rather than an optional follow-up, is what turns a DR site from a static asset into a proven capability.


The Platform


The result is a modernized vSphere 8 estate, built for high availability, protected by next-generation firewalls and supported by Dell compute, Dell Unity storage, and a high-availability switching topology. The primary environment handles daily operations; the off-site DR environment, with full replication, stands ready to take over.

What binds the two into one continuity system is the recurring drill program. Rather than assuming the DR site will work, the Customer confirms it on a schedule — the difference between a recovery plan and recovery confidence, and precisely the resilience the Customer set out to achieve.

Because readiness is confirmed on a recurring basis, the Customer relies on a capability that has been exercised, not a plan that hasn't.
